Do not support "the Dark Sided Gas Stations" who activities promote the use of crystal me-th and crack cocaine smoking by sale of ugly little silk roses in tiny little glass pipes. Stop supporting businesses that are destroying our community!

Join the police department every Thursday at 10:00am sharp for a weekly walk. They knock on doors and pass out information to reconnect with our community. Englewood Sub-Station 10920 E. Winner Road 816-325-7647.

Attend a city wide crime prevention meeting held monthly the first Tuesday each month at Truman High School 7:00pm.

Lean what the Police Department does by signing up to do a police ride along. Just go to the police Department and apply. They will call you and let you know when you can do it.

Protect your home and loved ones, network on your own little block. Did you know the city will spend $100.oo to help with the coast of food at a block party? We will be happy to help you also. The city will help you with all the games. They will even send a fire truck and police car if there not to busy. The kids Love it. Just go to Roger T Sherman community center 201 N. Dodgion.

Never miss an Independence Crime Task Force meeting every 4th Tuesday of the month at Trails West Library at 6:00pm to 7:00pm. Get the tools you need to protect you and your love ones from becoming a crime victim. Ban together with willing hearts to save our city. Political Tools
1. Independence if you look at the city's organizational chart the citizens are the one who tell the city officials what we want in our government. The problem we have in most citizens are no taking their JOB seriously enough.

2. The mayor and city council are under us. They oversee public funds and implement policy. If we are un-happy with something in our city then We need to take it to the city council. They meet every Monday except the 5th Monday in the council chambers of city hall at 111 East Maple Ave. Anyone can speak at council meeting by calling the city clerk office at 816-325-7010. We have6 council members and a mayor. Every 2 years there is an election. At the next election the 2 at-large and the mayor are up for election. They hold four year terms of office.

3. The Jackson County Legislators have 9 elected members. They also serve four-year-terms. They meet every Monday alternating meetings location between the court house in Kansas City at 415 East 12th Street South and the annex in Independence at 308 West Kansas Ave. they are responsible for loads of money, Tax collection, county roads, Parks Operation, County Jail, and the Sheriff Department.
